Chad VanGaalen to make Saskatoon appearance. Also, makes mind-blowing art with his pee

Calgary electro-folk artist to play Amigos on June 7 with Viet Cong

Chad VanGaalen is one of Canada’s most interesting, and intriguing, artists. His albums consistently sound like the endless clutter of a jam space filled with second-hand instruments and party garbage. Yet each one yields a bumper crop of delectable pop fruit. Even his noise project Black Mold is an oddly blissed-out listen despite also being an exercise in electro gargling.

Even better, when VanGaalen announced the imminent release of Shrink Dust, his fifth full-length album under his own name, he unveiled a warped video for the song “Where Are You”, which is filled with twisted animations of his own design.

And now, VanGaalen’s latest foray into art has been posting piss portraits via his Instagram account. And it’s a thing of beauty:

There’s no official word on if VanGaalen will continue the pee art come springtime.

Even so, there are going to be a lot of happy people when VanGaalen returns to Saskatoon on June 7 with label mates Viet Cong in tow.
