A Beginner’s Guide to MoSoFest and Multi-Venue Festivals

How to get the most out of your MoSoFest experience

If you’ve never been to a multi-venue, inner city music festival like Sled Island or SXSW before, Saskatoon’s MoSoFest, running June 14th to 16th, is ready to kick things up a notch and usher you into the wonderful world of venue hopping.

I’ve been to many outdoor music festivals, but just experienced my first urban festivals last year when I attended Vivefest 3 and Calgary’s Sled Island.

With multi-venue festivals, you have the option of paying at the door to attend a show at a venue in its entirety, or you can purchase a festival pass which allows you to attend all shows in all participating venues for a fraction of the cost of paying for them individually.

At Sled Island, nearly every bar and venue in downtown Calgary hosted festival showcases, so with bicycle and festival pass in hand I decided on what bands I most wanted to see and zipped from venue to venue, trying to catch them all.

MoSo has just released their festival schedule so we recommend that you purchase a festival pass and download a copy of the festival schedule to save on your phone.

Decide on what bands you want to see and get your butt down to the venues at the advertised times. Be late and risk missing your favourite bands!

All shows on Thursday are located at Louis’ while everything on Friday and Saturday is happening at select venues on Broadway which are all walking distance from each other.

If you aren’t able to make it out for the entire festival or only want to attend select shows, all MoSoFest shows are $10 at the door except for concerts at the Broadway Theatre which are $15. Festival passes, which allow you to skip the lineup at all venues (subject to capacity) and pay no cover are available for $55 at www.mosofest.com (or $39 if you were lucky enough to purchase them at early-bird rates).

Expect extensive coverage of MoSoFest on Ominocity next week and immediately following the festival. Rumour has it we’re even hosting a “top secret” MoSoFest patio party!
