Locals Reform Party and Jeans Boots are taking the stage this Friday at Amigos along with DJ Quadrant Khan aka Shumon Khan.
While his contemporaries for the evening are out soldiering the rock dive circuits, Khan’s genre is a completely different approach. Along with a residency in Saskatoon’s 6Twelve Lounge, Khan has been playing shows and festivals in Italy this summer – something that he admits has helped improve his set drastically.
“I met a promotional group online that was interested in booking me for the Macelleria House Club nights in Milano back in March,” says Khan. “Because of playing for them, I managed to get shows in the summer for them all throughout the country in Rome, Milan and Gallipoli.
“This was a huge step for me musically – to be able to perform on a international platform made myself step up my game and really push harder musically and professionally,” he continues. “The scene out there is so different than here in Canada so I had to learn the ropes very fast there. Europeans know exactly what they like (and dislike) when it comes to electronic music, which is very refreshing!”
In addition to his DJ sets, Khan also plays indie electro sets where he utilizes live instrumentation that is influence by Middle Eastern and Eastern Indian music. In addition to several of his own releases, Khan recently collaborated and toured with We Were Lovers for a remix of the song “Wildfire”.
Despite keeping a busy schedule around Saskatoon, Khan has designs on returning to Europe.
“Right now I am booked solid playing weekends at the 6Twelve Lounge,” says Khan.
“I have a couple more live shows this year and aiming to be back in Italy in January or February.”
