ABOUT IGOR BUTMAN
Igor Butman, saxophone virtuoso and bandleader, is Russia’s number one jazz personality. Born in St. Petersburg, Igor Butman started playing the clarinet at the age of 11 and later traded in for the jazz saxophone, a significant moment in his career as a musician.
After Igor Butman immigrated to America in 1987, he went on to major in performance and composition at Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts. By the time Igor arrived in the United States, he already had a fan club made up of some of America’s most respected jazz artists, being invited to play with Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Louis Bellson and very notably, Grover Washington Jr. He appeared as Grover’s special guest in concerts throughout the United States and is featured on Grover Washington Jr.’s Columbia release “Then & Now” (1988) soloing on “Stolen Moments”, “Stella By Starlight” and Igor’s own composition “French Connections”.
ABOUT THE MOSCOW JAZZ ORCHESTRA
The Moscow Jazz Orchestra is the hottest jazz ensemble in Russia and worldwide. Led by Igor Butman, sixteen splendid jazz musicians make by the Big Band, frequently touring Russia, Europe, and the United States. They have appeared at the world’s most prestigious jazz venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, “Birdland” and many others.
Internationally renowned jazz performers the likes of Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kevin Mahogany, George Benson, Gino Vanelli, Wynton Marsalis, Larry Corryell, Billy Cobham, Bill Evans, Joe Lovano, Gary Burton, and Toots Thielemans have all performed with MJO creating musical magic for their fans.
