MoSo: Willie Thrasher and Linda Saddleback and Jenny Berkel at The Refinery
June 16, 2016 @ 7:00 pm
MoSoFest and MoSo Conference is very proud to present a special evening of music and stories featuring Willie Thrasher & LInda Saddleback along with Kevin ‘Sipreano’ Howe. With special guest opener Jenny Berkel.
Willie Thrasher has been a mainstay on the Canadian music scene for decades, writing and performing songs about Inuit and First Nations culture and history. Known for touching upon difficult subjects with grace, sweet melodies and folk-rock guitar lines, Thrasher’s approach to music is about finding solace in sound and storytelling. With three of his songs on the 2014 grammy nominated historical compilation album Native North America (Vol. 1) and the 2015 rerelease of his 1981 album Spirit Child, Thrasher is loving the journey of finding a whole new audience. Willie performs alongside his partner Linda Saddleback.
This show will also include Native North America Vol. 1 producer Kevin ‘Sipreano’ Howe spinning records and showcasing archival videos and photos from his vast collection.
Since releasing her debut album, Canadian singer-songwriter Jenny Berkel has been enchanting listeners with her evocative songs and voice. Both on her own and as part of Daniel Romano’s Trilliums band, her consistent touring has garnered fans across the country and ocean.
Born in the heart of Ontario’s lush forests and fields, Berkel’s music has drawn her from rural Ontario to Winnipeg to Toronto and now, finally, to Montreal. This constant shifting finds its rest in her songs: dreamy and piercing, Berkel’s lyrics shimmer with memories of childhood, place and home.
Berkel’s new sophomore album, Pale Moon Kid (Pheromone Recordings) was recorded with gifted producer Daniel Romano. Described by Exclaim! Magazine as “a smouldering sound to behold” and “acutely poetic,” this glowing new collection reveals writing that has grown even sharper and more lyrical.
All ages are welcome at this show.
