MoSo: Duchess Says, Astral Gunk, HSY, tunic, Man Meat and Homo Monstrous at Amigos

June 18, 2016 @ 9:00 pm

MoSoFest & MoSo Conference presents….

Duchess Says
Duchess Says was created in late 2003 when four members of the Church of Budgerigars decided to collaborate together on a common musical project to promote a new kind of church and spread the message of the Duchess (or spiritual budgie). This Montreal band presents audiophiles with a collection of intense “moog rock” songs that pull influence from new wave and punk with artistic cues coming from cinema and visual arts. Duchess Says has the mandate to decontextualise the rock and to promote simultaneously their Church on the way.

Toronto-based sludge punk outfit HSY was formed in 2011 by the mononymous “Jude.”

Harkening back to the 80’s post punk vibes of Section 25 and 90’s sludge metal gods The Melvins, HSY crafts the perfect soundtrack for Toronto’s seedy underbelly. Loud, crude and in your face, this band brings all the sound you need to quell your raging temper.

Astral Gunk
Sackville ex-pats and waster royalty draw inspiration from a melting pot of punk, post punk, garage rock, pop and psych rock, or, the product of four dudes drinking beer in a shed and avoiding their responsibilities.

tunic are a sledgehammer to your skull. They leave nothing but scorched earth and inner ear oxidative cell death in their wake. Made in the image of punk-stalwarts like Scratch Acid, Void, and Big Black, Tunic are a progression of the three-piece punk unit.

Man Meat
Man Meat have established themselves as a badass, answer-to-no-one noise punk band in Saskatoon’s music scene. Sometimes compared to Slint and Four Hundred Years, they still produce an original sound fraught with anxious riffs and desperate melodies. Their demo “Meat Hands” provides a crunchy soundtrack to your personal existential crisis, fit for any season.

Homo Monstrous
Homo Monstrous is Jaye Kovach (She) and Leo Keiser (She/They). As Regina’s only queercore fantasy band and performance art duo, they make unlikely music for an unlikely existence, creating something raw, real, dark and immediately catchy. On their most recent album, “You’ve got problems, kid”, they mash together super-saturated guitar riffs and danceable back beats with an extra helping of electronic noise. Buried in the rubble are anxious lyrics touching upon stories of violation and a longing for a way to move forward.

Tickets are $12.00 + fees in advance and $15.00 at the door or use your MoSo 2016 Pass for ‘free’ access. Get your pass or ticket now!
