F&M – (Edmonton)
F&M’s baroque-pop / folk-noir sound has been critically acknowledged by way of music placements, songwriting merits (recently 2015 Edmonton Music Prize shortlist nominee, 2015 Edmonton Music Award Best Alternative Album finalist) and special invitations to perform in non-traditional or cross-genre spaces. After a period of silence brought upon F&M by way of a broken hand, a broken leg, and falling victim to fraud (no really!), they mark their triumphant return with a release built from another blend — that of broken bones, broken promises, and broken hearts. At Sunset We Sing, is a joyful melancholy celebration of life. Rebecca’s elegant musicianship & hypnotic voice, Ryan’s expressive lyrical poetry & distinctive croon, and Bryan’s cinematic instrumental flourishes bring a “devilish intensity that engenders a feeling of vaudeville and symphony orchestra performance.” (Gig City) “A group worthy of greater attention” (New Canadian Music)
Grandmother’s Chesterfield – (Saskatoon)
Grandmothers Chesterfield is a folk/alternative group from Saskatoon, SK. Consisting of core members Amy Timm (vocals/mandoline) Olaf Lokken (cello) and Andrew Linsley (vocals/guitar), they have been frolicking through the Saskatoon music scene for the past three years, entertaining groups at coffeehouses, fundraisers and winning back scorned lovers from outside their bedroom windows at unreasonable hours of the night. The band name was inspired by an antiquated piece of furniture they happened to be sitting on while practicing.
