Amigos 25th Anniversary Party w/ Carbon Dating Service/Maybe Smith/Golden Smoke/Junior Pantherz/The Fjords
November 22, 2013 @ 10:00 pm - 11:55 pm
You are cordially invited to join us for the Amigos Cantina Official 25th Anniversary Party! Yes, you! We’ve collected FIVE bands that are near and dear to us here at the bar. All of the bands are coming together for ONE NIGHT ONLY to help celebrate our monumental occasion with us, while raising money for Saskatoon’s Crisis Nursery (http://www.crisisnursery.ca). In fact, 100% of the night’s proceeds go to this great community based organization.
This wonderful eight-piece band made quite the impression in Saskatoon and throughout Canada with their gravitationally bound system of pop quirkyness, and a School Bus touring whip. After releasing three albums to the world, some of the band grew up, some found new bands, and some simply got the frig out of Saskatoon. Even the bus found a new life as a carnival deep fryer mobile. Come take the plunge and get fried one more time. Musically speaking.
The man, the legend. The mastermind. Colin Skrapek’s Maybe Smith project started out as a bedroom flirtation which eventually grew into record labels begging to sign him. CFCR and CBC Radio 3 essentially adopted this guy, which in turn resulted in mass hysteria on the radio and on the streets. From writing, recording, designing album art, webmastering, and running his own label (Sir, Handsome Records), the man clearly is a control freak. We kid! Quite thankfully though, he has never been wrong about his art and has provided music for all of us to enjoy for ages.
Some of the best bands we know just appear, explode, and simply disappear. Golden Smoke did all of that and then some. But maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be? Main man Chris Laramee delves into his deepest and darkest corner, while the band ensures you that everything’s gonna be alright. Just sit tight. Come feel it like it’s the first time forever…
While there’s not much “Junior” left in this outfit, JPZ still exude enough power to make your ears ring for days. Consider it a badge of honour, kids. These guys grew up in Amigos. Cutting their teeth in the audience ultimately inspired them to finally do the music thing for themselves once and for all. Five albums quickly piled up and so did did countless memorable tours. If you need to find ’em now, they’ll be playing “Detroit Rock City” at a wedding near you, or frequenting Arby’s on 22nd St. Long story short, Amigos needs curly fries. Stat.
Featuring three guys with haircuts you can set your watch to, The Fjords made their mark with powerful anthemic jams that made you punch the air one moment, to lamenting the loss of that girl you just loved SO much the next. The band have since refocused their sights on family, school, and letting in a ridiculous amount of goals in a local rec hockey league. But that aside, everyone knows that these guys were cut from a common cloth. The Fjords will never die, and that’s alright by us.
We here at Amigos cannot thank you enough for supporting us over the years, and look forward to many more great times together. We’ve always prided ourselves on people calling Amigos their “home away from home.” We hope you can join us for a great night.
Stay tuned for additional Amigos 25th Anniversary festivities!
