Ominocity’s Top Five Songs About Regina (Saskatchewan)

Songs about Regina, and not Regina Spektor, increasingly hard to Google

Way back in March of 2012, Ominocity released a list of our Top Five Songs About Saskatoon. We thought we would dish up our fave tunes about Regina as well.

But it turns out it’s actually really hard to Google. Thanks for that Regina Spektor.

So instead we had to resort to actually thinking about our favourite songs about the Queen City – it’s an odd list to say the least, but please enjoy anyway!

The Arrogant Worms – “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate”

This song is really obnoxious, and will always make me think of really bad bars where people are way too drunk to be dancing like that on a Wednesday night.

Lyrics: “And it’s a heave (ho!) hi (ho!), coming down the plains / Stealing wheat and barley and all the other grains / And it’s a ho (hey!) hi (hey!), farmers bar yer doors / When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina’s mighty shores.”

Library Voices – “Regina I Don’t Want to Fight”

This song was reportedly written in response to a local jerk stirring up Internet drama with Library Voices right when the band started to take off in popularity. More like summer of remedial insults. Fun fact: the guy who wrote this song is actually from Estevan, which is two hours south of Regina.

Lyrics: “It’s getting late and all our friends are taking sides / Regina, I don’t want to fight tonight.”

Rah Rah – “Duet for Emmylou and the Grievous Angel”

Rah Rah were really on to something with these lyrics about small town dating, but I’m still waiting for a band that will write a song about how it’s impossible to not date your ex’s best friend’s cousin in a city the size of Regina.

Lyrics: “It is fashionable / To be single / In big cities / But not in small towns / In Regina / Saskatchewan.”

Lordx – “Experience Regina”

Lordx, the composer, producer, instrumentalist and vocalist of “Experience Regina”, will never again in a million years write another solid gold hit like this one.

Lyrics: “Regina / Experience Regina”

Sugarcubes – “Regina”

It seems unlikely that a pre-famous Bjork and her gang of Iceland cronies would write an entire song devoted to both lobster and a small Western Canadian city known for its mediocre football team and not much else. But here we are.

Lyrics: “In my life / Lobster and shrimp / In my life / I don’t really like lobster”

Also: “Regina otherwise magnificent / Regina in good bloom.”
