“Canada’s Best New Artist” to be determined by Internet poll
CBC Music recently launched Searchlight, a national contest that spotlights regional music scenes in order to determine “Canada’s Best New Artist.”
The Saskatchewan list of artists, of which there are many, can be found HERE.
According to the CBC’s website, “the winning artist will be featured in a CBC Music video session, paid to perform at a high-profile music showcase in Toronto, and will receive $20,000 in music equipment.”
Musicians were asked to submit a song in addition to their CBC band profile, with the public controlling the results via online voting to determine who advances to the next round.
Which explains why all my musician-type friends are avalanching Facebook with requests to go and vote for them.
Every day.
This is due to the fact that you can only vote for one artist per day. Unless you are truly savvy and have access to multiple IP addresses. But that would make you a charlatan.
Round one of voting ends Feb 24. The Top 20 acts will be revealed on Feb. 25.
