Winterruption 2017: Cross Canada Fiddle Fest at The Bassment
January 19, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This show features a powerhouse of the best traditional fiddlers that Canada has to offer, brought together for one evening only right here in Saskatoon! This show will be highly energetic, and the chemistry between these players will excite! It doesn’t get any better than this!
Troy MacGillivray, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. His musical family emigrated from Scotland over two hundred years ago, and Troy is carrying on the family’s traditions. A gifted, multi-instrumental and award-winning performer.
Mairi Rankin, Mabou, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. From the deep roots of Scotland, steeped in the heritage of Cape Breton, Mairi is a dynamic fresh face on the international fiddle scene.
Gordon Stobbe, Seaforth, Nova Scotia. The King of Fiddle Camps! Gord spends most of his time these days travelling to all parts of Canada, performing and teaching to thousands of children and adults. Highly regarded teacher, and one of the most entertaining performers you will ever see!
JJ Guy, Saskatoon, Sk. JJ is beloved to so many in the fiddle scene. Playing since he was a wee lad and now a full time performer, teaching and touring across Canada.
And backing them up:
Daniel Koulack, Winnipeg, Manitoba. No stranger to the traditional music scene in Canada, this Juno nominee is a multi-instrumentalist who will be holding down the show with his stellar upright bass skills, throwing in the quirkiest sense of humour this side of the Great Lakes.
Eric Wright, Toronto, Ontario. A member of the trad supergroup, The Fretless, Eric has been changing the way the world sees the cello – he performs across Europe and North America.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Stephanie Lepine and Jean-Francois will not be able to perform this night, but we are lucky to be adding Karrnel Sawitsky to the lineup!
Karrnel Sawitsky is originally from Saskatchewan, though he now lives in Toronto and perfroms as a member of the Fretless.
