June 18, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Tonight It’s Poetry
June 18th // Amigos Cantina
Saskatoon — Treaty 6 Territory — Home of the Métis People
$5 if you can // 8:00 PM
After wrapping up our slam season, let’s decompress and hear voices old and new with a community stage! Sign up at the door starting at 7:30 PM. Please limit yourself to one piece, or two short pieces – 5 minutes including banter, to be mindful of the other folks waiting to share and those who have come before.
Our featured poet for the evening will be Helen Knott!
Helen Knott is of Dane Zaa, Nehiyaw, and mixed Euro descent from Prophet River First Nations living in Fort St. John, BC. She has published short stories and poetry in the Malahat Review, Red Rising Magazine, through CBC Arts, the recent Surviving Canada anthology, alongside other publications. Helen has academic pieces coming out in the near future that focus on connecting violence against Indigenous lands and bodies. In addition to writing, Helen is a grassroots activist, a social worker, a Masters in First Nations Studies student, and a mother. To check out more of her work, including links for various poetry videos she has made over the years, see her blog at: http://www.reclaimthewarrior.com .
