January 21, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Tonight It’s Poetry
January 21st // Amigos Cantina
Saskatoon — Treaty 6 Territory — Home of the Métis People
$5 if you can // 8:00 PM
Janelle Pewapsconias, aka ecoaborijanelle, is a Nehīyaw Iskwēw from Little Pine First Nation, Treaty 6 Territory. Janelle is a new spoken word performer with the Saskatoon Indigenous Poets Society sharing her stories and nehīyaw (Plains Cree) perspectives, cultural teachings and language. She writes about colonialism, patriarchy and power imbalance, and the impacts she experienced from these major underlying issues and inequalities in this territory. ecoaborijanelle uses her microphone to amplify her truth and in doing so shifts consciousness and brings justice with her slam poetry prowess.
She speaks from the experience of an Indigenous woman, but reminds everyone that her perspective does not represent all Indigenous people to Turtle Island.
The night will start with a community stage! Sign up at the door begins at 7:30 PM. Please do not read more than one or two pieces, or 5 minutes total, out of respect for the space and for the others with whom you share it.
