Tinsley Ellis, David Vest and Nikki Hill at TCU Place

February 28, 2015 @ 7:30 pm

Saturday, February 28th Tickets $40 – At the door $45.00

David Vest

David Vest is a fabulous, foot-stompin’ roots-rocker and boogie-woogie piano player, who can just as effortlessly play beautiful jazz and country blues ballads. His live shows are legendary, and his career probably pre-dates rock and roll itself. Onstage with Big Joe Turner and opening for Roy Orbison before he was old enough to vote, he later played with blues giants like Bo Diddley, Jimmy T99 Nelson, and Hubert Sumlin. He wrote the first songs recorded by Tammy Wynette. He has been credited with keeping an important part of Americana alive, and his new release, Roadhouse Revelation, is already being called “a most amazing set of songs” and “a candidate for album of the year.”

Although he’s a Maple Blues Award winner who now lives in Canada, David Vest is an authentic, Southern-bred boogie-woogie piano player, blues shouter and world-class entertainer. His first Canadian recording, East Meets Vest, was named one of the best blues albums of 2012.

Tinsley Ellis

Southern blues-rocker Tinsley Ellis may speak no evil, but he sings and plays with the conviction of, as Billboard wrote, “…a man possessed.” Over the course of eleven albums and literally thousands of live performances, Ellis easily ranks as one of today’s most electrifying blues-rock guitarists and vocalists. He approaches his music with rock power and blues feeling, in the same tradition as his Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman and Freddie King and his old friends Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis “the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell.”

Since first hitting the national scene with his Alligator Records debut Georgia Blue in 1988, Ellis has toured non-stop and continued to release one critically acclaimed album after another. Tinsley’s hometown paper, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, calls his music “a potent, amazing trip through electric blues-rock.” Rolling Stone says he plays “feral blues guitar…non-stop gigging has sharpened his six-string to a razor’s edge…his eloquence dazzles…he achieves pyrotechnics that rival early Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.”

Nikki Hill

Those who have seen Nikki Hill sing her ass off agree—this isn’t just another newcomer on the scene, this is a ‘whiplash’ moment. Where did this fireball come from? Why haven’t I heard of her before? If you haven’t heard of Nikki Hill yet, you soon will, and once you see her perform, you won’t forget her.

Hill and her band (whom Nikki deems ‘The Pirate Crew) are climbing to the top of the roots music scene step by step and leaving jaws on the floor along the way. With a no-filter energy, they take all the flavors of American roots music and deliver a sound that will make you believe in rock n’ roll again! Nikki’s gritty and raw voice with Stax soul dynamics, driving rhythm guitar from Matt Hill, and a tight rhythm section provided by Ed Strohsahl and Joe Meyer come together and make a sound that just sounds like the truth.

Nikki Hill’s self-titled EP released in June of 2012 created a heavy and sudden international underground buzz that the band has traveled with from state to state and overseas. Those 4 tunes penned by Hill herself, proved that they have an energy that appeals to everyone, drawing crowds from every avenue and musical tastes at their shows. One club advertisement will call Nikki “The Southern Fireball”, “the new soul sensation”, “amazing R&B shouter”, and even “the new Queen of Rock n’ Roll”. Moving into 2013 with more songs, more energy, and a desire to play their music for the world, the band was gaining momentum and appear to have no plans of stopping, as they are continuing to tour all over the United States, Europe and Australia after Hill’s newest debut full length album ‘Here’s Nikki Hill’, released in April 2013, helps them spread their message of rock ‘n’ soul to believers and new converts everywhere!

If you haven’t heard of her yet, prepare for your ‘whiplash moment’—you have been warned.
