Sleepwreck returns to the stage in Saskatoon to kick off a tour of Western Canada in support of his new Disasterpiece EP coming out with East Van Digital recordings. With High Priestess Cassandra bringing out the incense and face-paint, plus live performance lighting by the inimitable Isocellator, and some of Saskatoon’s best live elctronic music in the form of Economics (full band set) and Virtual Flannel… The post-apocalyptic groove magic will be in full effect!
Sleepwreck is the sound of cyborgs dancing around a ritual bonfire. As primal as it is forward reaching, as organic as it is technological, this Music is electronic and it is alive. Not lending itself to simple genre classification, Sleepwreck’s sound ranges from lush atmospheric textures, to hard hitting syncopated grooves, from heavy pulsing basslines to otherworldly vocal melodies. In the studio he crafts shoe-gazing, emotional downtempo one minute and whomping tribal dance music the next. When taking to the stage he dons a war-painted alter-ego and highlights real-world instruments and voice against his phat, clean production. No matter where you hear him, at home on your headphones or putting your nearest PA system through it’s paces, Sleepwreck’s honesty, passion, and enthusiasm are intense and infectious. Having performed at festivals large and small around Western Canada alongside artists such as Phutureprimitive and Random Rab, and with his newest offering Disasterpiece set to drop with East Van Digital, Sleepwreck is an artist to watch in Western Canadian Electronica.
This time travelling mad geniusis a master of light, and a creator of alternate worlds. Having headed up the decor and lights for the Ness Creek After Hours Stage for the pas three years, working with live bands as diverse as Yukon Blonde and Cancer Bats, and spearheading environment design at some of Saskatoon’s most memorable electronic music events (Enchanted Groove, Anti-Gravity, and Poseidon), Isocellator is a synaesthetic artist that never disappoints.
economics, aka Dean Summach, has been quietly making compelling instrumental music from his hometown of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for the past decade. economics’ songs are an ambitious collection of dense and delicate songs, falling somewhere in between adventurous post-rock, instrumental hip-hop, and vintage electro-pop.
economics has moved from the bedrooms to the clubs, developing a live show that is a striking departure from his recorded output. Featuring lush guitar loops, electronics, danceable beats, vocals, and guest musicians, Economics has created a visceral experience in the live venue. Dean promises every show will be different from the last.
Virtual Flannel is known for his experimental beats using the Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer. After a number of self-releases on digital and cassette, V-F! has released music with Cologne, Germany based label Noorden, Brooklyn’s Paxico Records and most recently Dirty Tapes. In 2014 Flannel brought his “crunched ’n’ crushed techniques” to the NYC Boiler Room live music event, Dirty Tapes Radio 002. Virtual Flannel has also done select remix work for Saskatoon’s Ryan Stinson, the UK’s Duke Slammer, and New York’s Son Lux, who has described V-F’s music as “the sound of your brain slow-motion splattering against an ice sculpture of a flamingo high-fiving a squirrel while jumping over a downed power line.”
