Saskatchewan Jazz Festival: Oliver Jones at Broadway Theatre
June 29, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Oliver Jones, his name evokes the love of Jazz in an astonishing and profound sense. A man who has lived his life in the music community and has left a shining impression everywhere he has travelled; that of humbleness, of warmth, of dedication and of great talent. His early success in the music industry led him to tour and be discovered in Quebec. This led to doors opening for him, as a pianist and musical director, to travel to the United States and Porto Rico.
This internationally renowned pianist came out of retirement in 2006 to go out on tour for the release of his album, One More Time. Ten years later in 2016, he embarks on his last tour, which will include many cities in Western Canada, including a stop at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Oliver said of his special tribute concert to Oscar Peterson, “Tonight I would like to play some of my favourite Oscar Peterson tunes that I have learned and enjoyed over the last 50 years. I hope that you will receive as much pleasure listening to these old and new works of the greatest Jazz musician ever, Oscar Peterson.”
Oliver Jones played the first festival in 1987 and joins us to celebrate our 30th anniversary!
