The sound of rock, reggae and Latin colliding with 90’s ska-punk, minivandal is horn-infused, high-octane party-machine! Although their name (and ride of choice) might not be considered “sporty” by some, it comes equipped with heated guitar solos (Justin Schumacher), two horns (Mitch Cassidy, Ben Fortosky), and an “extreme” keys/bass/drums system (Cameron Baribeau, Emmett Fortosky, Nathan Abramyk). Trumpet player Ben Fortosky drives the band, adding lead vocals and extra guitar to the front-end.
Whether they’re on the road or tearing up a stage in their home town of Saskatoon, minivandal’s mandate is to get any crowd moving. Their music is, after all, designed to be able to shift a party into overdrive in record time. Recently, the band has had the privilege of sharing the stage with notable Western Canadian acts The Steadies, The Dirty Catfish Brass Band, and Johnny Don’t.
While they’ve been gaining traction with their live shows, minivandal has also been revving up to release their full-length debut album,“Turn Left Here”. The self-produced album’s 11 original tracks highlight the band’s unique ability to shift musical gears while still maintaining a full tank of intensity. Take the record for a spin when it rolls in on February 2nd to find out just how much punch a 6-piece party-band can pack!
Ellen Froese & The Hot Toddies
Hailing from a dairy farm in Saskatchewan, young hip-swinger folk-singer Ellen Froese is a musician and songwriter who plays in bluegrass/folk group In With The Old, as well as her own solo folk project/rock ‘n roll band when called for. With performances including Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, and Merlefest in North Carolina, Ellen is certainly a busy bee.
