CFCR FM-Phasis 2017: Lisa Leblanc at Capitol Music Club
September 29, 2017 @ 9:00 pm - September 30, 2017 @ 12:00 am
Lisa LeBlanc’s second record, Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?, is available now in store and online. At 26 years old, the captivating Montreal singer-guitarist-banjo player who hails from Rosaireville, New Brunswick has toured for five years with her band and sold over 140 000 records on two continents. Her ability to compose rousing, heart-wrenching narratives from everyday tales of love, friendship and heartbreak has been compared to the sharp wit of Courtney Barnett, the rambling honesty of Bob Dylan and the high-flying sincerity of Dolly Parton.
It’s true that in Quebec, Lisa LeBlanc is already a known quantity, having had laudable success on her self-titled debut French language album produced by Louis-Jean Cormier (Karkwa.) The disc was released in 2012 in Canada (and in 2013 in Europe) and swiftly sold over 90,000 copies, achieving platinum-selling status. She toured in Canada, France, Belgium and Switzerland and received critical acclaim for her work including the exceptional honour of the Prix Felix at the Adisq awards in Quebec for being the Discovery of the Year. The Gamiq awards in Quebec also named her Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Discovery of the Year. She was awarded prizes in France and Belgium and was nominated for a Juno Award in the Francophone Album of the Year category in Canada.
The Broadway Theatre is proud to present this show as part of CFCR’s FM-Phasis 2017. All proceeds will go to support everyone’s favourite community radio station!
