Admittedly, I have a huge gaping soft spot for punk rock that is puerile and untamed, like a teenage hooker in the rough. Surgeons of the Night, one of the best band names I’ve come across in a while, claims to be from Iqaluit. Which might explain the recording and songwriting quality. Tellingly, this is what makes it rad.
The Lesser Slave Lake EP essentially poops on your chest, tosses a fiver on the nightstand and trundles off into the morning in search of a smoke, a hoagie and some more coochie. Total punk rock barf-outs.
The cover of “Patio Lanterns” by Kim Mitchell, however, actually reminds me of the time I was 5-years-old and a dog bit me. It’s scary and weird.
