Ominocity celebrates 3rd anniversary

Local arts and culture blog officially launched on March 1, 2011

Can you believe it’s already been three years since Ominocity first hit the streets in 2011? Where does the time go? Yeesh.

I was still living in Montreal when Ryan and I first conceived of the idea of doing a Saskatoon-based blog – strangely enough I wasn’t even planning on returning to the prairies at that point.

Ominocity officially launched on March 1, 2011. Below is a screenshot of what the original site looked like.

Retrospectively, it was a pretty dark look. Ah well. We upgraded a year later to what you currently see on our site.

The original plan for Ominocity was to write and publish one article a day six days a week. If that seems overly ambitious keep in mind that a week later I left for a whirlwind month-long cross-Canada tour with Slow Down Molasses, which, among other things, saw us escaping from power-saw wielding maniacs in Prince Edward Island and braving ice storms in Thunder Bay. Somehow Ominocity managed to continue our daily output despite these setbacks.

After Slow Down Molasses played our last show of the tour in London, Ontario I took the train back to Montreal. A month later I was driving back to Saskatoon to devote more time into this zany online venture.

Three years later we’ve still managed to put together over 1,100 articles – that’s pretty good considering there were 1,096 days in the past three years (2012 was a leap year!).

We’ve also managed to win a few awards (Planet S’ Best Local Website/Blog three years in the running) and make new friends along the way.

Good times.

Huge thanks to everyone who supported us, whether it was from day one or day 1,000. And, as always, support your local scene.
