I am always moved and amazed when I hear a local band that I never knew existed – we are all supposed to be buds here in Saskatoon, and missing out on a band like Fisticuffs makes me realize I am a bad friend. Fortunately, these things can be redeemed with a little work and a lot of humbleness.
Despite the fighty name, Fisticuffs turn out dreamy, post-prairies rock with an emphasis on some mightily heartfelt lyrics and random splices of unorthodox instrumentation. And on their newest single, entitled “Would You”, the group soars with some immaculately-placed strings amongst dirty, blue-collared guitar fisting.
Strangers I haven’t met yet, let’s please be friends.
